How I Adopted a Dog in Pennsylvania

Recently I adopted a dog here in Pennsylvania, and it was quite easy to do so. I simply desired to have a male beagle; I wanted a younger dog but did not want a puppy that I would need to train. I simply watched the SPCA web site for my local area until I found the type of beagle that I wished to adopt.

When I saw a male beagle on the web page had been placed for adoption I call the shelter to see if he was still there as there was no date on the site as to when it had been updated. I knew the site was updated a few times a week, but I just wanted to make sure the dog was still there before I drove down.

When I arrived at the animal shelter, I was led to the only beagle they had in the place. His big brown eyes melted my heart, and even when the worker told me that he would need to be sterilized which would be an added expense I still wanted him. I had to pay an adoption fee and sign a paper affirming to have him neutered within 60 days as the state law dictates here in Pennsylvania. If an adopted animal is not sterilized within those 60 days, the new pet owner faces stiff fines.

Pennsylvania State law dictates that pet owners who adopt an animal from any of the animal shelters within the state get the dogs to the vet as soon as possible to get a clean bill of health. Adopted dogs are required to get rabies and distemper shots among a few others, your local shelter will advise you if any other shots which may be needed.

I am glad I adopted Ranger my beagle from the animal shelter; I spared his life as many shelter animals are put to sleep each year.
